Hong Kong University (HKU) Magnet Seminar

November 2, 2005. Prince Philip Dental Hospital, HKU, Hong Kong

An enthusiastic audience of about 70 participants attended Prof. Tak Wah Chow's Magnet Seminar at Prince Philip Dental Hospital, Hong Kong University. New information and updates on application of FePt Superthin Magnets on a 4 point natural tooth overdenture clinical case was presented, with the patient showing full satisfaction. Further observation is required test the longevity and corrosion resistance of FePt Superthin Magnets. In his conclusion, Prof. Chow made the following remarks: "Regarding current magnets, significant technological advances have been made in the past decades. However, corrosion, wear, and size are problems which proved difficult for the researchers, the manufacturers, and the clinicians. The new FePt magnet is showing promise. It is resistant to corrosion in simulated oral environments and being ultra thin, its size is certainly an advantage. Presently, the attractive force of the prototype is about 400gf. When this can be made stronger, the future of magnetic dentistry may belong to FePt...."
